As World Kindness Day approaches (13 November), Hampton Care Home is appealing to the local community to spare a thought for elderly neighbours and acquaintances who are often isolated, especially at this time of year.

This can simply mean checking on someone every now and then, offering to pick up some shopping for them or popping in for a cup of tea. The care home’s residents have already started reaching out to other elderly people in the hope of establishing regular phone calls and meet-ups.

“There are many people in our community who don’t see other people for day or weeks on end. Here at Hampton Care Home we live within our own ready-made community, but we know that there are others less fortunate and the pandemic has just made things worse,” says our home manager, Margie Lopez Gonzaga.

“We’d love to connect and build up relationships with elderly people who are isolated. And we are also asking our local community to do the same by reaching out to an elderly neighbour or someone you see at the bus stop or in the local shop. It would make their day and let them know that their local community really does care. Elderly people are often isolated, especially at this time of year, which is why World Kindness Day means so much. But there’s no reason why kindness should be confined to just one day – it should be all year round!”

Introduced in 1998, World Kindness Day is celebrated across the globe every year on 13 November and promotes kindness in all its forms.
